neighborhood

John 1:14 says of Jesus, “The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside and out, true from start to finish.”

This may seem obvious, but our church building has an address. 2101 Jules, St. Joseph, Missouri, USA. N 39° 46’ 6.914” W 94° 50’ 5.201” according to Google Maps. It’s a specific place with real flesh and blood neighbors who have real needs, real pain, real triumphs, real stories. Wellspring is so committed to being a tangible source of God’s healing love that we didn’t just buy a church building in the neighborhood, but a house too. Throughout the gospels, Jesus and his disciples enter the real needs, pains, triumphs, and stories of the people he interacted with. Jesus broke bread, he listened to their stories, he prayed, he sang. This is our desire – to know our neighbors.  Our ministry focuses on three main areas: The Guest House, Edison Elementary School and Food for Kids.

Guest House

Our Vision:

To be a tangible source of Jesus’ healing love to our neighbors

Our Values:

Grace"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)

Healing - “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” - Psalm 147:3

Sacrificial Love - “Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will

lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.” - Luke 9:23-24

Our prayer is that anyone who walks through our doors will display grace for themselves and others by meeting one another just as they are. That they will experience healing in their stories and grow in their relationship with Christ. That they would show sacrificial love by being present with one another and giving back to the community.

edison elementary school

Wellspring, only a few blocks from Edison Elementary School, partners with the school staff and leadership to educate and support children and their families. Through mentoring, coaching, classroom help, providing various resources, and walking with kids to school, Wellspring stands in support of Edison. We believe education and positive relationships with adults are important for children to grow and thrive.

food for kids

Food for Kids is a ministry started by Sheila and Kenzie Gilbert to provide lunches for the children in our neighborhood over the summer months. While meeting the physical needs of our

neighborhood is important to the ministry of Food For Kids, even more so is investing in and loving on the children. Wellspring partners with this ministry by providing food supplies, financial support and showing up to play with the children.
